Youth Volleyball League

Volleyball Opportunity for 3rd-6th Grade:
Liberty Juniors is providing a volleyball league this Fall starting the week of September 11. The league meets on Tuesday nights from 5:30-7:00 at Liberty Middle School. The cost is $70 and includes a team t-shirt. The league is coached by experienced High School coaches and provides skill training and game-like play for all 3rd-6th graders. Incoming 6th Grade Student Residency Verification Information

Attention parents of students entering the 6th and 9th grades for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year! LPS will be implementing a new residency verification policy. This will be a requirement for students starting on the first day of school (August 16, 2017). The calendar window to submit required documentation will be June 15 - July 29, 2017.  Parents are encouraged to begin gathering the information below to submit during the calendar window to avoid long lines and/or enrollment delays:

Acceptable proofs of residency
(Two different utilities - water, gas, or electric OR lease agreement OR non-contingent home sales contract OR settlement statement from home purchase)

Price Chopper Grocery Grab

Discovery Middle School and Liberty Middle School are supporting the Building Pride Activities Complex Campaign through the sales of “Price Chopper Grocery Grab” raffle tickets.  100% of all ticket sales will go to the Building Pride Campaign.

 

A $5 raffle ticket gives you a chance to win the following:

·         One of four $100 Price Chopper gift cards

·         One 5-minute Grocery Grab – 5 minutes to grab as many groceries as possible!

 

Each $5 ticket is also a $5 coupon to Price Chopper – this is a no lose situation!

 

·         On December 3rd at 10:00 a.m., five semi-finalists will be drawn at each store.

·         On December 10th at 7:30 a.m.:

o   4 of the semi-finalists will be selected to win a $100 gift card to Price Chopper

Track Tailgate

PTSA is sponsoring a track tailgate on 4/25.  The tailgate will be held at the DMS baseball field after school until 4:00.  Snacks and drinks will be provided, and there will be music and tailgate games!
 
After the tailgate, students will cheer on their 8th grade track team at the DMS track at their last meet of the year!

Science Class Donations

The 7th and 8th grade science classes have some projects coming up in class and they are looking for some donations. If you have any of the following laying around the house, please think about your child bringing the to school to donate.

 

Old Christmas Lights (they don’t need to work!)

Cardboard Tubes from wrapping paper, toilet paper, paper towel, oatmeal containers, etc.

Cardboard Boxes from wax paper, aluminum foil, shoes, etc.

Thread spools

Bubble wrap, tissue paper, newspaper, etc. (anything that is used as padding or stuffing in packaging would work)

Bottles with lids (any size!)

 

All donations can be dropped off in room 105.

Orientation

Orientation will be Wednesday, August 5th and Thursday, August 6th.  It will run from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. each day and students will get their schedules, get their laptops, pay their school fees, and get their school picture.

National History Day Results

Congratulations to all of our State National History Day students who went to Columbia on Saturday. They all did great. Katherine Vlamis and Delaney Tarpley made it to the final round with their group exhibit. Natu Kahassai got third place and is the Nationals alternate for his paper. Sarah Roebbeke and Gabby Ryal got third place and are the Nationals alternate for their group performance. Fiona Burroughs got a special cash award for her individual performance. Excellent work ad LMS is proud of you.

MAP testing is coming up and here are the dates they will be occurring (all testing will be 1st-4th periods which is 7:45-11:16):

  • April 21-22:  EOC testing for Algebra students.
  • April 27-29:  6th grade MAP testing
  • April 30-May 1:  7th grade MAP testing
  • May 4-8:  8th grade MAP math and ELA Performance Event
  • May 11-15:  8th grade MAP math, ELA, and science

Flight Incentive

The last Flight incentive for the school year is next week.  On Monday, April 20th all students that are on a level will miss 6th-8th periods to watch the movie Big Hero 6 in the LPAT.  All gold level students will also be entered for a Lemon Tree and Jimmy Johns gift card and silver level students will be entered for a Lemon Tree gift card.  If you do not want you child to watch the movie please fill out the attached slip and turn it into the office by Friday, April 17th.

Sign Language Club

If you are interested in sign language then you should join the ASL club where you can learn sign language.  The ASL club will meet on Wednesday's after school until 3:35 starting January 14th.  The meeting will be held in Mrs. Detlefson's room, room 312, across from the Birdcage.  The club will be hosted by Samantha Dillon and is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.

Wrestling News

The Blue Jays wrestling team had a fantastic showing on Saturday in earning 20 individual medals at the Liberty North Invitational.

3rd placefinishers were Derick Slaughter, Charles Kirkpatrick, Jacob Selock, Jacob Charay, Nicholas Biesmeyer, Payton Christensen, Ethan Mohr, and Logan Kilkinny.

2nd place finishers were Phillip Manion, Phillip Carson, Chris Dickerson, Joe Charay, Parker Heyne, Gavin Bopp, Bryant Schmitz, and Caelob Wexler

Tournament Champions were Drew Savaiano, Grant Ross, CJ Ford and Reggie Parks.

Career Center Open House

The Northland Career Center would like to invite all 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students and their parents to an Open House November 13th from 4:30 to 7:30.  This will be an opportunity for students and parents to tour the building, talk to students and instructors working in the labs, and ask questions about each program.  A chili dinner will served by the Culinary Arts students.  There is no charge for this event. LMS will be having a 6th grade family movie night on October, Friday 24th, at 5:30 p.m.  All 6th graders and their families are invited to come for Ghoulish evening in the LMS gym!  Wear your costumes and come watch Hotel Transylvania.  All concessions will be $1.  After the movie you can top off the night with the HMS haunted house!  Hope to see you there!

Self Defense Class

There will be a self defense class from 3-4 on Monday, September 29th for any LMS student in grades 6-8. This class will teach you self defense skills and how to avoid/escape bad situations. The class will cost $5 and be held at LMS. Fall Sports News

Fall sports practices will begin on Monday, August 18th.  Cross Country will practice at LMS  (7th & 8th grade), volleyball will hold tryouts at LMS, football will practice at DMS, and cheer will hold tryouts at DMS (starting Tuesday).  The shuttle bus number from LMS to DMS is 409.  Please visit the athletic website for more details.

Transition Meeting Rescheduled

LMS Transition Meetings

On Tuesday, February 4th LMS will be having an enrollment information night for students and their parents who will be attending LMS next year.  Current 5th graders will be from 6:30-7:15 and current 6th and 7th graders will be from 8:00-8:45.  Both meetings will take place in the LPAT (Liberty Performing Arts Theater).

LMS Theater News

Next Friday and Saturday, LMS will be presenting the play, 30 Reasons Not To Be In A Play.  The play will be taking place each night at 7:00 p.m. at the Liberty Performing Arts Theater and tickets only cost $5.

6th Grade WEB Transition Update/Changes

The 6th Grade WEB transition day will be on Tuesday, August 13 from 8:00-3:00 (this is a change from the letter you received that stated the times being from 8:30-3:00).  Lunch will be provided by the WEB Team and will consist of pizza and drinks.  There will also be a parent orientation this same day from 3:00-7:00 for 6th graders and their parents only.  During this time you will be able to walk your child's schedule with them, bring supplies to put in their locker, provide medical information, buy a yearbook and activity pass, and deposit money in your child's lunch account.
